It’s nearly time for the annual Kiwanis Coweta County Fair.
This year’s fair will be Sept. 20 through Sept. 29 at the Coweta County Fairgrounds south of Newnan on Pine Road, and Mega Passes are already on sale. The $25 passes, good for any day of the fair, include admission and unlimited rides on the midway. The passes can be bought online at www.cowetacountyfair.org or at various locations around Coweta.
This year’s fair will feature brand new entertainment, including the Great American Frontier Show, the Puppetone Rockers, High Rollers Historic Bicycles and a singer/songwriter competition through Open Mike Atlanta.
There will also be live music each night, said Scott Cortner, fair chairman for the Newnan Kiwanis Club, which hosts the annual event. Proceeds from the fair are used by the Kiwanis Club to benefit local charitable organizations.
The midway rides will again be provided by Dixieland Carnival Company. New rides this year include the Flying Dutchman and High Energy.
The Great American Frontier Show will take up most of the area at the front of the midway where the entertainment normally is held, said Cortner. The show will include performances by a trained wolf, frontier cooking demonstrations, history of the horse and trick riding, Cortner said.

The singer/songwriter competition begins online. Entrants produce videos of their music. Visitors to the website then vote for their favorite performer. The top vote-getters will perform live at the fair, Cortner said. Voting ends on Sept. 22.

And, of course, there will be the traditional exhibits, including the 4-H animal shows and petting zoo, and the best baked goods, jams and jellies, fruits and vegetables and arts and crafts that Cowetans have to offer.

Other events include the popular Lumberjack Competition, the Coweta Cattlemen’s Steak Cook-Off, the Youth Cake Decorating Contest and Gingerbread House decorating. Pre-registration is required for some competitions.

“The Newnan Kiwanis Club is excited to once again sponsor the Kiwanis Coweta County Fair,” Cortner said. “In addition to showcasing our local agriculture and crafts, this year we are proud to present the Great American Frontier Show, a tribute to our nation’s heritage.”
