The YMCA of Metro Atlanta announces that Parrish Underwood is the new executive director of the Summit Family YMCA in Newnan.
Underwood brings 20 years of successful YMCA leadership and management experience to the position. Most recently, Underwood was vice president of financial development and an executive director with the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit. Before moving to Detroit, he held the same position with the Birmingham, Alabama, Metropolitan YMCA.
“I’m thrilled to be back in Atlanta,” says Parrish. He began his Y career as community development director at the YMCA of Metro Atlanta in 1992 at the Southeast Family YMCA on Memorial Drive, now being renovated as the YMCA Youth and Teen Development Center.
“As a leading nonprofit community service organization, the Summit Family YMCA has an exceptional opportunity to be a cornerstone solution for families and residents as the city of Newnan continues to develop,” says Underwood.
He received his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Morehouse College before earning his master’s degree in organizational management and leadership from Springfield College, an international YMCA training school in Massachusetts.
The Y is a powerful association of men, women and children joined together by a shared commitment to nurturing the potential of kids, promoting healthy living and fostering a sense of social responsibility.

Every day, the Y works side-by-side with its neighbors to make sure everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and connect, said Y officials.
