Downtown Newnan events planned today and Saturday

Main Street Newnan and downtown merchants are kicking off Labor Day weekend events starting today.
Sidewalk sales will dot downtown today, and Saturday brings the annual road race and Market Day.
The one-mile walk/run begins at 7:45 a.m., followed by the 5K at 8 a.m. A short “Tot Trot” will follow the race.
Runners will gather on West Broad Street near the Newnan Carnegie Library for the start, and the race continues to Newnan High School and through historic neighborhoods and then finishes at the Court Square.
The entry fee is $25. Online registration is available at www.active.com and applications are available at www.mainstreetnewnan.com . Participants registered by Aug. 24 were guaranteed a T-shirt. Beverages and light refreshments will be available.
On both Friday and Saturday downtown merchants will host the Annual Sidewalk Sale from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday also brings the popular Market Days on the Square held each first Saturday. Vendors will be on the square with handmade, homemade, and homegrown products.
Free public parking is available along downtown streets and in the off-street lots which are located on the corner of LaGrange and Spring streets, First Avenue and Spring Street, East Broad near Perry Street behind the Coweta County Administration Building and East Washington and Perry streets.
As with all Main Street events, the weekend events will go on rain or shine.
