Disney movie 'Odd Life of Timothy Green' filmed here, opens in theaters Wednesday

A movie filmed partially in a historic Newnan home, “The Odd Life of Timothy Green,” comes to theaters nationwide on Wednesday.
The Disney movie includes scenes filmed at the Parrott Camp Trammell House at 155 Greenville St. in the Greenville-LaGrange National Register District in March 2011. Motorists might recall the filming — as Greenville Street was intermittently shut down, causing some traffic problems.
Newnan is not the only place that can call the movie its own.
“According to their website, it was filmed in a lot of different places — Asheville, N.C., Birmingham, Los Angeles, Albany, Canton, and Decatur,” said Tray Baggarly, Coweta Event Services director.
So far, the movie is getting positive reviews. “So I think it will be another feather in our cap, you might say,” Baggarly added.
The movie stars Jennifer Garner and Joel Edgerton as Cindy and Jim Green. One day, they write their wishes for a child on slips of paper, put them in a box, and bury it in the garden. After a stormy night, young Timothy shows up — with leaves growing out of his ankles.
“He’s a force of nature” is one of the tag lines for the film.
The story is written by Ahmet Zappa, son of legendary guitarist Frank Zappa.
“The Odd Life” isn’t the only Coweta-filmed movie coming out in August.
“Lawless,” which was filmed primary in Coweta, is set to premiere on Aug. 29. Originally called “The Wettest County in the World,” it’s based on the true story of the bootlegging Bondurant family during Prohibition. “Lawless” stars Shia LeBoeuf, Tom Hardy, and Gary Oldman.
And more movies may be on the way.
“I’m hearing that an Arnold Schwarzenegger film is coming,” Baggarly said. “We’ve had several inquiries about that. Nothing definite, but I heard something about it today,” Baggarly said on Friday. “I know they are looking at the area but I don’t know for sure if they are going to come here.”
