Grantville is set to adopt a proposed millage rate requiring a property tax increase of 248 percent.
The tentative increase will result in a millage rate of 7.01 mills, an increase of 5 mills. Without this tentative tax increase, the millage rate will be no more than 2.01 mills.
The proposed tax increase for a home with a fair market value of $100,000 is approximately $200 and the proposed tax increase for non-homestead property with a fair market value of $50,000 is $100.
All concerned citizens are invited to public hearings on the proposed tax increase. Hearings will be held at the Glanton Municipal Complex, 123 Lagrange St. in Grantville, in the following sessions: Aug. 15, at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.; and Aug. 21 at 3:30 p.m.
The Grantville City Council will vote on the proposed millage rate at a called meeting Aug. 21 at 4 p.m. at the Glanton Municipal Complex, following the final public hearing.
Grantville City Council members also will take part in a joint called meeting with the Coweta County Board of Commissioners Aug. 16 at 6 p.m. in the commission chambers at 37 Perry St in downtown Newnan. The purpose of the joint meeting is to renegotiate distribution among the county and city governments of the Local Option Sales Tax, LOST, proceeds.
