A manhunt was under way Monday for two possibly armed burglary suspects who fled on foot after their vehicle was stopped at a convenience store off Lower Fayetteville Road at Newnan Crossing Bypass.
Authorities have tentatively identified the suspects, but were withholding releasing their names Monday afternoon pending further investigation.
The homeowners reported at least three guns, various rings and computers were taken, the major said.
Initially, authorities were looking for a white male who was walking and carrying a black backpack. Authorities later put out a lookout for a yellow Dodge Neon that was in the area of the burglaries. That vehicle was later located at a Chevron convenience store at the corner of Lower Fayetteville Road and Newnan Crossing Bypass.
Two suspects fled the vehicle after being stopped and ran off into the woods, Yarbrough said.
Law enforcement with the Coweta County Sheriff's Office and the Newnan Police Department, as well as K-9 units from the sheriff's office, were involved in the search.
Yarbrough said deputies "recovered a lot of the stolen property from the car."
Newnan Crossing Elementary School was put on alert around noon time, but authorities canceled that about 15 minutes later, according to Dean Jackson, spokesman for the Coweta County School System.
