A group of Grantville citizens has organized pushing the proposal of a splash park for the city.
Recently, a Facebook group, “Citizens FOR the Grantville Water Park,” was created by Jay Coker.
When Grantville Mayor Jim Sells got word, he joined, too, and saw the overwhelming response from the residents after Monday’s council meeting, Sells said. With 459 members and growing, Sells said he decided to call another meeting to discuss the splash park once again.
The meeting is set for Monday at 6:30 p.m at the Grantville council chambers.
Sells said he expects many residents will be in attendance to show their support for the splash park.
At his rental property office, Sells said residents are stopping by to display their desire for a splash park — cars are lining up to get their windows painted in support of the splash park.
“We are asking for as many people as we can get to come to the meeting so that the council members can see what a benefit this would be to the citizens of not only Grantville, but also of the surrounding communities,” Sells explained. “This splash park will bring more business to Grantville, helping the two upcoming restaurants, the fitness studio, the grocery and produce store, and several other small businesses in Grantville. Not to mention, to bring life back to Grantville.”
Sells said he is trying to grow the city but needs support of the local residents to make that happen.
On the Facebook page, Grantville residents can also find a link to a petition residents have put into place for the splash park.
Sells added that anyone may stop by the Sells Properties office, 5966 U.S. Hwy. 29 in Grantville to have their windows painted in support of the splashparkduring hours Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., or Monday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
