Coweta voters wishing to take part in early voting can cast their ballots during office hours Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Coweta County Voter Registration Office, located at 22 East Broad St. in downtown Newnan.
Early voting for the July 31 primary and special election is held each weekday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., ending Friday, July 27.
Voters may also request a paper absentee ballot be mailed to them. There is still time to get a paper ballot, but not much. Ballots must be in the voter registration office by 7 p.m. on July 31.
They can be mailed in or hand-delivered by a close relative. Contact the voter registration office at 770-254-2615.
The July 31 election includes the regional vote on a one-percent sales tax for transportation projects.
If approved in the Three Rivers region — the planning region that includes Coweta County — the sales tax would last for 10 years.
Also on the ballot are Sunday alcohol sales questions in Coweta County and in the city of Grantville. Coweta voters will decide whether beer and wine can be sold in stores on Sunday, and whether restaurants can serve alcoholic drinks on Sunday.
Grantville voters will decide whether beer, wine, and liquor can be sold in stores on Sunday.
Grantville voters will also vote on whether to allow restaurants to serve liquor drinks. Currently, only beer and wine drink sales are allowed in Grantville.
Voters in Moreland will decide whether to change the charter to extend the terms of the mayor and council from two years to four years.
All Coweta voters will choose a new judge to replace Coweta Superior Court Judge Allen Keeble, who is retiring.
There are a few contested local races on the Republican primary: U.S. Congress District Three, Georgia House District 71, and Coweta County Surveyor.
Voters who choose either Democratic or Republican ballots in the primary will also get to give their opinion on a range of issues, through several non-binding opinion polls.
For more information on early voting, contact the Coweta Voter Registration Office at 770-254-2615.
