The Fayetteville Police are warning women shoppers of voyeurs taking photographs of women in dressing rooms using cellular telephones.
The information comes after an arrest by the Fayetteville Police on June 27 of a man who was taking pictures of a woman in a dressing room at the Fayetteville Goodwill store, said Detective Mike Whitlow.
The man was using his cell phone and was spotted by the victim who then followed the man until police could arrive. He was apprehended in the parking lot and arrested.
Maurice Smith, 32, of Jonesboro is currently being held in the Fayette County jail on charges of Peeping Tom and Unlawful Surveillance. Detectives also served a search warrant on Smith’s phone and located more photographs.
Surveillance video from the store shows Smith taking the pictures with his one-month-old daughter in his arms and in full view of at least one other customer.
The case is still under investigation and police are trying to determine if any of the other photographs were taken in the Fayetteville store. Anyone who was in the store on Wednesday, June 27 who may have seen Smith is encouraged to contact the Fayetteville Police.
