The Summer Focus program is once again under way in Luthersville.
The summer program has been sponsored for six years by the American Union Relief Society. Local churches, volunteers and other organizations join with AURS to provide the program for area youngsters.
AURS held a kickoff event for Summer Focus on Saturday. There was a bounce house and a miniature train to delight the youngsters and keep them occupied while parents filled out registration paperwork.
The event also included a free hot dog lunch.
“We’ve had a good turnout,” coordinator Beverly Ball said at the kickoff. She said she expected other families to bring children for registration on the first day of Summer Focus on Tuesday.
The Meriwether County School System provides breakfast and lunch for participants who are ages 5-16. There also is a devotional time, crafts, sports and academic reinforcement activities.
The all-volunteer program needs volunteers, supplies and donations. Anyone interested in helping should contact Ball at 770-486-8930 or 770-656-1292.
Summer Focus began Tuesday and continues through July 30 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays of each week from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. The program is held at Luthersville City Hall.
