The Coweta County Farmers Market opens for the season on Saturday.
Hours for the market are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Asa Powell Sr. Expo Center off Temple Avenue adjacent to the Coweta County Recreation Department fields. The drive entrance is next to Waffle House.
Local farmers and home gardeners are beginning to harvest their summer crops. Share in the bounty by visiting the market 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesdays and Saturdays through September. There will be farm-fresh produce from Coweta fields and gardens, as well as other items including local honey, pickles, jams and jellies, flowers, and fruit.
Local artisans will offer their handmade arts and crafts.
The market is coordinated by the University of Georgia’s Coweta County Extension office. For information contact Market Manager Brad West or Extnsion Director Stephanie Butcher at 770-254-2620 or visit www.ugaextension.com/coweta .
Also, there is a community farmers market targeting the eastern area of Coweta. It is located in the parking lot of Grace Baptist Church, 825 Hwy. 34 East (intersection of Hwy. 34 E and Ebenezer Church Road). The community market is held every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will run through the end of November. The church is about 1 mile east of Thomas Crossroads. This is also a producer-only market, meaning that the farmers cannot broker the food; they must produce it themselves. Everything will be handmade, homemade or local.
