A Wednesday morning fire at a facility in Creekside Industrial Park caused minor damage to a Yamaha subsidiary.
No injuries were reported and fire officials praised workers for a quick evacuation.
The Coweta County Fire Department responded to 385 International Park (formerly Walt Sanders Boulevard), off Georgia Highway 34 East, just after 11 a.m. A small fire was discovered in a welding area.
According to fire department Deputy Chief Todd Moore, sparks from the welding ignited particles in a filtration system.
Several fire department units responded and an aerial truck was brought in to cover the roof area in case the fire expanded.
“Anytime we have something like this, we want to make sure we have our bases covered,” he said, referring to the aerial truck. “In this economy, we don’t want any business to have damage that affects jobs.”
Moore said power to the welding station was shut off and firefighters used water to put out the small fire.
“The workers were already evacuated when we arrived,“That helped because by them evacuating we could focus on the fire and not worry about people inside.”
