A 70-year-old man was arrested after waving a gun at Piedmont Newnan Hospital emergency room personnel Monday.
Russell G. Kingston Jr., of River Park Drive in Newnan, was booked in the Coweta County Jail on a charge of pointing a weapon at another, according to Newnan Police Chief Buster Meadows, adding no shots were fired.
Kingston had collapsed in the hospital's parking lot about 1 p.m. and was brought into the ER by staff, Meadows said, adding Kingston collapsed due to some medical condition.
While hospital workers were checking him out, they noticed Kingston had a gun.
"About that time he (Kingston) grabbed the gun, started waving it around and pointed it at them," the police chief said. "They just got out of the room."
Several units with the Newnan Police Department and Coweta County Sheriff's Office responded and Kingston's gun was taken from him without incident.
