An 11-year-old girl was struck by a passing car on Firethorne Drive Thursday and taken by ground ambulance to an Atlanta hospital.
The girl was “conscious and alert and appeared to be stable,” said Mitch Coggins, assistant fire chief with the Coweta County Fire Department. She was taken to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta-Egleston.
The girl, Sasha Castro, who lives on Firethorne, was walking along the side of the road when she was hit by a car driven by Michel Carroll, 61, also of Firethorne Drive, said Georgia State Patrol spokesman Gordy Wright. Both were headed westbound at the time of the accident, which occurred around 7 p.m.
“The driver said he was blinded by the sun and didn’t know he was that close,” Wright said. “She was hit with the right side mirror of the car.”
Carroll was charged with failure to maintain lane, Wright added.
