The target is a May 18 completion for the rebuilding of Newnan High Schools Drake Stadium, and in recent days exterior siding and windows were going in on the press box section.
Wallboarding was almost finished late last week.
Structural steel installation for Drake Stadium’s press box was nearly finished by early February.
The projected completion date for the entire stadium upgrade is well within grasp, Coweta County School System Facilities Director Ronnie Cheek has said.
“Our goal was to have it finished in time for graduation, and it’s going very well,” he said.
Torrance Construction Co. heads up the stadium project, and has also been handling other renovations at the high school.
The contract amount is $4,794,893.
Demolition of the original, 45-year-old home-side stands of the stadium was completed in mid-December.
“The scope of work is limited to the home-side stands,” Coweta School System spokesperson Dean Jackson said. “The visitor’s side stands will remain as they are, although there will be some new lighting installed on the visitor’s side,” he explained as the project was getting under way in the fall.
The work was considered a high priority after a routine inspection revealed structural flaws in the stands, he said.
