2.5 inches drench Coweta

It seemed like it was "raining all over the world," as the song "Rainy Night in Georgia" goes -- and the more than 2 inches of rain that fell across Coweta County Tuesday night and Wednesday swelled local creeks.

Drivers along Lower Fayetteville Road Wednesday morning noticed racing water in ditches.

The waters of Shoal Creek came close to the bridge at Highway 34 East, and water was out of the banks of White Oak Creek at the soccer fields at Whitlock Park on 34.

At 5 p.m. Wednesday, 2.52 inches of rain had been recorded at The Times-Herald building in downtown Newnan

Cooler weather is headed our way.

According to the National Weather Service forecast, after a low Thursday morning of 40 degrees, it should be partly sunny with a high near 52 and a northwest wind between 5 and 10 mph.

Thursday night into Friday morning is expected to be mostly cloudy, with a low around 33 and north wind around 5 mph.

Friday should be partly sunny with a high near 50.

On Friday night and Saturday morning, rain is likely, mainly after 1 a.m. The low should be around 36. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent.

Saturday there is a 20 percent chance of showers and skies should be mostly cloudy with a high near 46.

Saturday night is forecast to be mostly cloudy with a low around 30.

Sunday should be mostly sunny with a high near 51, and Sunday night partly cloudy with a low around 30.

I hope everyone is alright. This is some weather event we are stuck in. Drought isn't good but neither is this. Hopefully 2010 will put us back in the middle of the two.
