The Coweta County Fair starts Sept. 18.
And this year, "it's probably going to be the biggest and best fair yet," said Brad Mantzell, fair chairman for the Coweta County Kiwanis Club, which hosts the annual event.
"Every year we keep adding more and more entertainment," Mantzell said.
New this year will be a high-wire trapeze act, Victoria's Circus.
There will be multiple performances daily, including a traditional trapeze over 30 feet in the air, the motorcycle globe of death, and the motorcycle incline high-wire show.
Back by popular demand is the Brain Staples' Animal Magic Show, said Mantzell.
There will also be two nights of beauty pageants and a car show.
And those are only some of the exciting events coming to the 10-day fair.
The fair runs Sept. 18 through 27.
Opening night will be bargain night -- $1 admission and $1 rides.
For other nights, the Mega Pass is available. For $20, the Mega Pass includes admission and unlimited rides during any day of the fair. That's a $5 savings over admission and an armband. Plus, the Mega Pass is good any day, while armbands are only available on certain nights.
Mega passes must be purchased by Sept. 17. They are available at First Coweta Bank (three locations), First Choice Community Bank (four locations), the Powell Library in Newnan, Bank of Coweta, the Coweta Extension Office, Newnan Antique Mall, Rutledge Center at 55 Millard Farmer Industrial Boulevard, Scott's Bookstore, McIntosh Commercial Bank (two locations), and Bicycles Unlimited in Peachtree City.
Commercial and community exhibit spaces are first come, first served. To reserve a space, call Carol Hill at 770-251-6515.
It's also time to start sorting through your finest canned goods and garden vegetables, handicrafts, paintings, photos, flowers, and just about anything else you can make, bake, or grow. Registration for individual exhibits will be Sept. 15 and 16.
There will be many contests this year, including the popular lumberjack contest, the cattlemen's steak cook-off, the gingerbread house decorating contest, family scarecrow contest, and youth creative birthday cake decorating contest.
This is the second year that the fair has been 10 days.
The longer duration has been quite successful, Mantzell said.
"In five days, everyone wanted to get there and they only had five days to get there. It was more crowded," he said. "Over 10 days, you can come at a more leisurely pace, you can spread it out better," he said. "Everybody seemed to have a more enjoyable time."
