Susan Dohanich

Susan Dohanich teaches sixth grade at Madras Middle School. She has been teaching at Madras for 16 years.

Why did you become a teacher?

I knew I enjoyed being with kids and teaching. During the summer, I taught swimming and worked at a day camp as a lifeguard.

What is your favorite part?

Seeing light bulbs come on when they don’t get it, especially with students who have a harder time. Makes me feel like I made a difference. I enjoy them coming back and keeping me updated on their lives and school.

If you were not a teacher, what would you be doing?

Something in retail probably.

What do you do for fun?

Water, pool, tan

What is your favorite movie(s)?

Grease, Dirty Dancing

What is your favorite book?

Anything by Nicholas Sparks

What is the one thing you want your students to learn?

That I care about them and where their future is going. I want them to be a good person and understand life lessons.

What are you summer plans?

Water, pool, tan. I also have a trip to the beach planned.
