ECHS senior receives $5000 scholarship

Moises Escobar, a 2014 graduate of East Coweta High School received a $5000 scholarship from Delta Community Credit Union.

Escobar plans to attend Auburn University in the fall and major in biomedical engineering. He is an AP Scholar and a Georgia Merit Scholar, a distinction given to those who rank in the top five percent of their class, as well as being a scholar athlete.

He is a member of Mu Alpha Theta, the National Honor Society, the French National Honor Society and co-founded the Advanced Academic Club, a group which mentors students seeking to take advanced courses and fundraises to allow students to take AP exams who cannot afford the fees. Moises played varsity tennis for four years, served as team captain and was a state qualifier.

He was elected to the student government association as treasurer for all four years of school. Moises organized a 5K run called Soles for Cole to raise money for cystic fibrosis research and was a volunteer with the Angel Run. He volunteers with his church and the Newnan County Humane Society and coaches youth basketball and tennis.
