Locals graduate from Brenau U

Several local students recently earned degrees from Brenau University in Gainesville. They are, from Newnan: Maria Elena Ramsey and Victoria Ava Warner Robinson; from Fairburn: Tabatha Crafter Dixon, Charmaine Forts, Caleb James Hill, Nicole Bianca Isom, Kristal Wynette Turner-Coklow, Celia Michelle Williams, and Artenius Tonee Willingham; and from Fayetteville, Courtney Danielle Shropshire.

Area students inducted in Phi Kappa Phi

The following local residents recently were initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines: Thomas Parks of Fayetteville initiated at The University of West Georgia; Holly Smith of Grantville initiated at The University of West Georgia; Olivia Brown of Newnan initiated at Jacksonville State University; Terry Hinkemeyer of Newnan initiated at Jacksonville State University; Amanda McGee of Newnan initiated at The University of West Georgia; Danielle Kozusnik of Newnan initiated at The University of West Georgia; Heather Szalankiewicz of Palmetto initiated at The University of West Georgia; Stephanie Smith of Senoia initiated at Auburn University; and Dawn Jones of Sharpsburg initiated at The University of West Georgia.

Pollard named Konos Valedictorian

Konos Academy announces that James Pollard of Sharpsburg has been named the 2014 Valedictorian. The son of Michael and Kimberly Pollard, he plans to attend Georgia State University on the Zell Miller Scholarship and study criminal justice. Konos is an accredited homeschool hybrid academy based in Fayetteville.

Guice earns business degree

Elizabeth Guice of Fairburn earned a Bachelor of Science Business Administration in resort tourism management. Guice was among 1,081 undergraduate and graduate candidates for degrees at Coastal Carolina University's Spring 2014 commencement ceremony.

Holloway places in track and field championship

Andrea N. Holloway from Newnan was on the Brenau University Golden Tigers Track & Field Team that won the SSAC Championship on April 25-26 in Gulf Shores, Alabama, for a second consecutive year. She finished sixth place in the javelin throw and eighth place in the Hammer Throw. Holloway is majoring in health science at Brenau. She is a graduate of East Coweta High School.

Local students graduate from Troy U

Troy University honored more than 700 graduates on Friday, May 9, during spring commencement inside Trojan Arena on the Troy Campus in Alabama. The following local students were among those to receive degrees: Lori Elder of Newnan; Joshua Hjemvick of Sharpsburg; Denise Moore of Fayetteville; Savannah Shoemaker of Hogansville; and Pamela Warner of Newnan.

Riley graduates from Texas A&M

Mary-Christina Riley of Newnan recently graduated from the Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University.

Ballantyne and Gjertsen named to Dean’s List

Alando Ballantyne and Emilyn Gjertsen, both of Newnan, have earned Dean's List status for the recently ended winter term 2014 at Washington and Lee in Lexington, Virginia. Dean's List status represents a term grade-point average of at least 3.4 on a 4.0 scale.

Three locals graduate from Clemson U

Three local students recently graduated from Clemson University. They are Bradley Steven Weaver of Brooks, who graduated with a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering; Gordon Dent Collins III of Newnan, who graduated with a Bachelor of Science in marketing; and Sara Ashley Hawkins of Newnan, who graduated with a Master of Architecture in architecture.
