Students shine in Coweta’s Art Show

Recently, the Newnan Kiwanis Club and the Kiwanis Club of Coweta County held their first combined Art & Talent Showcase for Coweta County students.

The art portion of the event is a long-standing tradition of the Kiwanis Club of Coweta County. This year, the pieces were judged by Martha Ann Parks, a designer in Newnan. Awards were given out for best in show, and a first, second, and third place award for each grade.

Mathew Miller won Best in Show for his untitled art piece. Miller is a junior at Newnan High School. First place awards included: “The Serene Face,” by Josh Stanley, a sophomore at Trinity Christian School; "Portrait of Banner,” by Emily Bagrationoff, a junior at Northgate High School; and “Tiger,” by Victoria McMillian, an eighth grader at Smokey Rd. Middle School.

•Sixth grade winners: First place - Caroline Wiglesworth, “All-American School,” Evans Middle School Second place - Morgan Wingard, “Three Butterflies,” Evans Middle School Third place - Jessica Hutchins, “Aspen,” Lee Middle School

•Seventh grade winners: First place - Kyler Gunn, “Chicken Soup,” Madras Middle School Second place - Kayla Harris, “Looking Ahead,” Arnall Middle School Third place - Katie Valladares, “A Girl Wearing Pearls,” Lee Middle School

•Eighth grade winners: First place - Victoria McMillian, “Tiger,” Smokey Road Middle School Second place - Niki Gary, “Free as a Cloud,” Evans Middle School Third place - Madison Rivers, Untitled, Madras Middle School

•Ninth grade winners: First place - Sabina Acuff, “Tiny,” Trinity Christian School Second place - Miguel Garcia, “Frog,” Newnan High School Third place - Eli Ross, “Test Tube,” East Coweta High School

•10th grade winners First place - Josh Stanley, “The Serene Face,” Trinity Christian School Second place - Hank Dobbs, “Singer,” East Coweta High School Third place - Monique Terrell, “Once a Slave,” East Coweta High School

•11th grade winners First place - Emily Bagrationoff, “Portrait of Banner,” Northgate High School Second place - Molley Blakeley, “Sisterly Love,” East Coweta High School Third place - Charlotte Mertz, “Model,” East Coweta High School

•12th grade winners First place - Callie Waters, “Caileen,” East Coweta High School Second place - Dakota Becker, “In the Rain,” East Coweta High School Third place - Mary Salyards, “Don’t Look Down,” Northgate High School

The best in show and all the first place pieces will be on display at the Carnegie Library through April 25. On April 26, they will be taken to the Carrollton Cultural Center to compete in the Georgia District Kiwanis Art and Music Showcase. That competition awards four scholarships to its winners - $3500 for Best in Show, $2500 for first place, $1500 for second place, and $500 for third place.
