by Celia Shortt

Lynne Pence, third grade, Glanton Elementary

Lynne Pence teaches third grade at Glanton Elementary School in Grantville. She has been teaching in Clayton and Coweta Counties for 20 years.

Why did you become a teacher?

For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to be a teacher. I loved children. As a teacher, I wanted them to love school and look forward to being there.

What is your favorite part of teaching?

When they actually get it. The light bulb goes on, and it makes sense to them. It makes learning fun, so it doesn’t seem like a chore.

If you were not a teacher, what would you be doing?

I don’t know what I would be doing other than working with people. I love interacting with people and hearing their stories.

What do you do when you’re not teaching?

I like to travel. I went to Washington, D.C. I always wanted to go, and I was able to see it with students.

What is your favorite movie(s)?

The Blindside, The American President, and While You Were Sleeping

What is the best part of being at Glanton Elementary School?

It’s a small school - small community. You have a chance to get to know all the students. We have a great team here.

What is the one thing you hope your students learn?

That you have to work hard. That it may not be your best thing, but you can still do a good job if you work at it.
