Jillian Andrew – eighth grade literature, language arts and math, Smokey Road Middle School


Jillian Andrew teaches eighth grade literature, language arts, and math at Smokey Road Middle School. This year is her tenth of teaching.

Why did you become a teacher? 

I had a really good teacher when I was in school and thought I’d like to do it as well.

If you were not a teacher, what would you be doing? 

I wanted to do culinary school. I like to cook. So maybe something in that field.

What do you do for fun? 

My husband and I watch a lot of football.

Do you have a family? 

I have been married for six years to my husband, Brent. We have two kids, Mia and Grayson.

What is the most fulfilling part of being a teacher? 

When the kids trust you - that you are someone special to them is cool to me.

What is the one thing you want your students to learn? 

Just to keep trying. A lot of times, they’re really good at something, but they just don’t want to keep going with it.

Where did you grow up? 

I grew up in Homestead, Florida. I miss the weather the most :)
