Students at Glanton Elementary School will have extra art supplies thanks to a fundraiser in downtown Grantville.

Kid-A-Palooza was sponsored by the Downtown Development Authority.

'The focus of the festival was to raise funds for the Glanton Elementary School art program,' said Rebecca Campbell, event organizer.

Campbell attended the recent Grantville City Council meeting where she presented a check for $1,200 to Katie Garrett, the school's principal, and Leah Cebulski, the new art teacher at Glanton.

Garrett thanked the town for its support of the school.

The money for supplies 'will help us so much because it's such an important part of the curriculum,' Garrett said. She said art is a subject where many students 'feel secure and where they can thrive.'

'Art isn't just a process,' Campbell said. 'It's so much more.'

When Campbell announced the amount of the donation, there were hugs from the principal and teachers - and applause from the officials and visitors in the council chambers.

Garrett said she 'just has no idea' how large the gift would be. She said Cebulski will put the funds to food use. 'She has such great ideas,' Garrett said.

'We are so grateful for this gift. Our kids are the ones who are going to benefit from this,' Garrett said.

'We're grateful for Glanton Elementary,' Mayor Jim Sells said.
