Albert Jackson III, had a dream to expand the Dawson Street Christian School in LaGrange to Newnan. Last week, his dream became a reality.

“Helping children has been instilled in me,” he said. “My family really pushed for education.”

Dawson Street Christian School is a non-denominational Christian school, originating in LaGrange. It is an extension of the ministry of the church, Greater Bethlehem Temple. Jackson said the LaGrange campus busses kids in from all over, and he felt that Newnan would be a good market for a second campus.

“We love being here in Coweta County,” he said. “We can do almost everything we want to do here, and we can reach out in the local community.”

Jackson’s family is an important part of his work at the school. Many members, including his wife and father, are members of the teaching staff and involved in the everyday aspects of running the school.

“We’re here to try to enhance their education spiritually and academically,” said Rev. Albert Jackson Jr. “We’re here to promote Jesus Christ and to encourage people to go to church.”

Dawson Street Christian School caters to all students and has 150 students in K through twelfth grades at their school in LaGrange and about 100 students in K through twelfth grades at the new campus in Newnan. It is a member of the Georgia Independent School Association and offers college prep, general and basic diplomas.

“The ultimate goal is to get them (the students) in college - and to get our kids ready for the next level,” said Jackson.

The school offers scholarships and some financial aid through the Georgia Goal Program.

The new campus is located at the facilities formerly used by Newnan Christian School.
