Pugh participates in SOAR1 program

Derian A. Pugh, a senior at East Coweta High School, was selected to participate in Xavier University of New Orleans Louisiana’s SOAR1 (Stress On Analytical Reasoning) program. SOAR1, a challenging approach to verbal and quantitative reasoning, is for students who are interested in science and health-related careers. The program is designed to prepare rising seniors for standardized testing. Academic competitions, group seminars, career explorations, and science-related field trips are an integral part of the program.

From the collegiate lecture type classes to living in the residential halls on campus, students are given an opportunity to have a collegiate experience while they are still in high school. Students take various reasoning and reading classes, attend seminars, participate in group projects, and have college mentors during the program.

At the conclusion of the program, Miss Pugh was selected by her peers as the student most likely to succeed. She is the daughter of Derrick and Gwendolyn Pugh of Newnan.
