Lee MS Beta Club third at national convention

by Celia Shortt

Recently, the Jr. Beta Club's Quiz Bowl Team beat out 25 other teams from across the nation to take third place at the National Jr. Beta Club Convention in Mobile, Ala.

The Jr. Beta Club's Scrapbook Committee also attended the national convention, but they did not place.

'Our scrapbook committee did not place in Mobile, Ala.,' said Jr. Beta Club Sponsor Sheila Taylor. 'We are still proud of them, and feel it's still just an honor to be able to attend National!'

Both the Scrapbook Committee and Quiz Bowl Team qualified for the national competition after achieving Runner-Up at Georgia's State Convention in Macon, Ga., in December of last year.

The Jr. Beta Club at Lee Middle School believes in giving back to the community and strives to do that in all their activities and with all their teams.

'Our national motto is 'Let us lead by serving others,'' said Taylor. 'We take this motto to heart by participating with organizations in our community such as Bridging the Gap, Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels, and visiting nursing homes.'
