Evans faculty, staff reunion planned for April 27

A reunion of faculty and staff who have served at Evans Middle School – formerly O. P. Evans Junior High School – is planned for Saturday, April 27, from 2-4 p.m. in the school’s cafeteria.
All staff members who have been involved at Evans throughout its history are invited to attend the reunion. Those who are interested in attending are asked to contact Cheryl Vickers at 770-683-2495 to RSVP.
In 2013, Evans celebrates its 40th anniversary. O.P. Evans Junior High School opened its doors in 1973, teaching seventh and eighth grades.
The school was built with a very different design concept: The classrooms did not have walls and only rolling bulletin boards separated the rooms, which was a new experience for the teaching staff.
The school has been remodeled and expanded over its 40 years of service.
With the coming of the middle school system to Georgia a sixth grade was added, and Evans became the middle school which it remains today.
The school was named for Orrin Presley Evans, the former principal of Newnan High School and Superintendent of the Newnan City School System, and the first Associate Superintendent of the Coweta County School System.
Herman Fletcher was the first administrator at the new O.P. Evans Junior High. Fletcher served in the capacity for 15 years of his career.
He was succeeded by Jerry Davis, who also led the school for 15 years before being named Coweta County Associate Superintendent.
Walter Drake, Vince Bass and Melissa Wimbish have served as Evans’ most recent principals.
