Faith Strickland was not about let a nasty stomach bug keep her from her appointment with Georgia Superintendent of Schools John Barge.
Selected as one of 50 students statewide to serve on Barge’s Student Advisory Council, the East Coweta High School junior made it to the first of two scheduled meetings in Atlanta recently – after a brief stopover at an urgent care facility for a shot to ease her nausea.
“She needed to get to that meeting,” said Strickland’s mom, Caroline Winsper. “We took her home, put her to bed and tried to hydrate her enough to make it. Thank goodness she did...weak and pale, but present!”
During the meeting, advisory council members discussed social media such as Facebook and Twitter, virtual learning opportunities including a special classroom accommodating students with special needs like Attention Deficit Disorder; College and Career Readiness Performance Index and a career and technical education overview.
Strickland, a student intern in the Teacher Pipeline program at Central Educational Center who plans to pursue a career in education, will meet with the other council members and Barge again in March.
