Nursing student at WGTC is state officer

West Georgia Technical College Registered Nursing student Claudia Manning was elected a state officer at the Georgia Association for Nursing Students (GANS) convention held in Atlanta recently.
West Georgia Technical College’s Associate Degree Nursing program has several students involved in the Association for Nursing Students. The students who are members of this WGTC association are also involved in GANS.
“Our students continue to excel academically and professionally,” said West Georgia Technical College President Skip Sullivan. “We are tremendously proud of Ms. Manning’s accomplishments, and I know that she will represent the college well.”
Manning, who is completing her first year of nursing, currently serves as the WGTCANS vice-president. She is the first West Georgia Technical College student to be nominated and elected for the Nominations and Election Committee West District officer representative.
The West District includes West Georgia Technical College, Gordon College, University of West Georgia, LaGrange College, Columbus Technical College, Clayton State University, Georgia State University, and Columbus State University, Georgia Baptist College of Nursing-Mercer University.
“I have every confidence that she will be a tremendous asset to the nursing profession and the global health care community,” said Maquissa Thomas, RN Instructor and advisor of WGTCANS.
Manning will represent WGTC and GANS on both a state and national level. She will work to increase enrollment and unify registered nursing students through participation in community events.
In addition to Manning’s work with WGTCANS and GANS, she recently completed a teaching service project in Atlanta focusing on the prevention and evaluation of concussions in young athletes.
“This has a huge impact on our school, not only with community support but also at a state level,” said RN instructor Christina Brazier.
