Willis Road Elementary School fourth-grade teacher LeAnn Cheatham was recently named a 2012 Coweta-Fayette Bright Ideas Grant recipient.
Cheatham submitted her grant application for “Making Dreams Become Reality” and was awarded $1,494.81 to implement her plan.
She plans to use the grant to purchase iPads for her classroom.
Willis Road is a pilot site for the Coweta County School System’s Bring Your Own Technology incentive, which aims to prepare all students and teachers to maximize learning by fully integrating relevant technology into every classroom.
A first step is to develop and implement a plan allowing students to bring their own digital devices to school.
As part of this plan, CCSS will pilot a project that will allow students to access the CCSS wireless network using their own technology tools during the learning day.

With classroom teacher approval, students may use their own devices in the classroom to access and save information from the Internet, communicate with other learners and use productivity tools provided by Coweta County Schools.

Recipients of the Bright Idea Grant are selected from teachers in Coweta-Fayette EMC service area.

Teachers are chosen on the basis of their use of innovative and creative learning experiences. Clearly defined goals, implementation that directly involves students to whom direct involvement otherwise would be unavailable helps recipients stand out, and a plan that provides immediate or ongoing benefits to students also are criteria for applicants who receive grants.
