Coweta County schools and school system leaders honored 51 school system retirees at a recent banquet.
The faculties and staff members in attendance represented nearly 1,337 years of experience, including 1,043 years of teaching experience in Coweta County schools, School Board Vice-Chairman Winston Dowdell noted. They ranged from classroom teachers of all grades and disciplines to bus drivers, nurses and administrators.
Dowdell and School Board Chairman Sue Brown welcomed the retirees, their principals and their guests, recognizing the retiring faculty and staff for their service.
“Thank you for what you’ve done for the children of Coweta County,” said Dowdell.
“We thank you for all of your years of service to our schools, to the children of the community and to their families,” seconded Dr. Steve Barker, Superintendent of the Coweta County School System.
The banquet – sponsored by the schools and departments from which the employees were retiring – was held at the Centre for Performing and Visual Arts. Coordinated by the school system’s Personnel Department, School Nutrition Department and Centre staff, the banquet was served by students in Dr. Susan Mullins’ Teacher Pipeline program, which trains future teachers.
Teachers were introduced onstage at the Centre and honored by board members, Barker and Associate Superintendent Jerry Davis. They were presented with silver trays commemorating their years of service.
The 51 attendees at the program were among 75 teachers and staff members who retired from the Coweta County School System during the 2011-12 school year.
