'Once Upon a Mattress' cast includes two Cowetans
Carrollton Cultural Arts Center Manager Penny Lewis recently announced that two Cowetan County young people will be playing leading roles in an upcoming play of the Carrollton Teen Theatre. Carlee Avery and Taj Stephens were chosen from among the 80 teens who auditioned for the roles.
Carrollton Teen Theatre presents "Once Upon a Mattress," Friday, Aug. 1 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 2 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at the Carrollton Cultural Arts Center Theatre.

In this classic Broadway retelling of Hanss Christian Andersen's The Princess and the Pea, Princess Winifred the Woebegone, with the whole kingdom rooting for her, must swim moats, endure all-night dance-a-thons, and feel a pea through 20 mattresses in order to impress the highly discriminating Queen and win the hand of her Prince Dauntless.
Nominated for Tony Awards for Best Musical in 1960 and Best Revival of a Musical in 1997, this musical delight features the songs "Shy," "Happily Ever After," "Many Moons Ago," "In a Little While," and "Yesterday I Loved You."
Summerfest tonight
Georgia Youth Ballet will wrap up its three-week Summer Intensive Workshop with its annual Summerfest performance on this evening at 7:30 p.m. Nearly 40 dancers from seven south metro counties will perform numbers from classical ballets and modern works. The dancers have been working with nationally-renowned guest faculty, including Maria Chapman (Pacific Northwest Ballet), Foye DuBose (Alabama Dance Theatre), Katherine Gebler (Alabama Ballet), B J Hilbun, Emily Lannan (Atlanta Ballet), Paulo Manso de Sousa, and Kathyrn McBeth (Atlanta Ballet).
Summerfest 2008 will be performed at the Charles Wadsworth Auditorium in Newnan. This will mark the first time GYB has performed at Wadsworth, though the company has been performing its Nutcracker for several years at The Centre in Newnan.
Tickets are available at the door. Adult admission is $10, and tickets for children under twelve and senior citizens are $8 each. Georgia Youth Ballet is a regional pre-professional dance company based in Fayetteville serving the south metro area.

in LaGrange
LaGrange Lyric Theater's (LLT) production of the "Music Man" will run July 4-13.
Performance times at Price Theatre on the LaGrange College Campus will be:

July 13, 3 p.m.
The cost is $20 for adults; $15 for students and children, and $60 for a family pack (4 or more immediate family members).
Tickets are sold at Hill Street House or are available by calling the LLT phone line at 706-883-9645. The box office will open an hour before the show each night.
