Work to begin on rehab center, expected to open April 2013

Construction will begin this week in Newnan for a new rehabilitation facility, Ansley Park Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Ansley Park will be located at 450 Newnan Lakes Blvd. The facility is being developed by Ethica Health and Retirement Communities, the Macon firm that also operates Avalon Health and Rehabilitation and Newnan Health and Rehabilitation. Work should begin "the first part of next week," said Lynne Palmer King, vice president of community relations with Community Health Foundation. "They've been getting ready to go. They're waiting on the weather."

Ethica is a member of Community Health Services of Georgia, a Macon non-profit.

"Ansley Park will provide clinical and rehabilitation services for short-term patients with a focus on orthopedic, stroke and cardiac recoveries," King said. The in-patient section of the facility will have all 64 private rooms with bathrooms, and there will be large windows to allow natural sunlight.

Meals planned by a chef, daily activities and socialization programs are planned.

One wing of the hospital will be Townsquare Rehab, which will be dedicated to therapy in settings close to real life. There will be a home setting with a bathroom, bedroom and kitchen to assist in functional daily tasks necessary for someone to transition back home. There will be store and restaurant settings and an actual automobile where patients will work at getting into and out of the vehicle, fastening a seat belt, using the steering wheel and pressing the gas and brake pedals.

Ansley Park will also have a therapy and exercise gymnasium for physical therapy and occupational therapy. There will be a private speech/language pathology suite and inside-outside gardening therapy that will be wheelchair accessible.

King said Ansley Park will have at least 150 to 200 employees. She said Ansley Park will open in 2013, probably in April. "That projected date depends on the weather," she said.

"Ansley Park hopes to provide a place that creates a new standard for senior care and is excited about becoming part of Newnan's health care community," King stated.
