Summit and Fayette YMCAs join

The Summit Family YMCA is now managing the Fayette Family YMCA.

The change in operation came about in late October when budget shortfalls caused the elimination of the Fayette YMCA executive director position.

"The YMCA had to make some difficult decisions," says Jeff Alevy, executive director of the Summit Family YMCA. "The Coweta and Fayette communities will continue to be served. The Fayette Y is not closing: we just changed the reporting structure. By combining resources, these YMCAs will become more financially viable and will offer continued, high-quality programs and other activities as needed."

Located on 29 acres of land on Huiet Road between Fayetteville and Peachtree City, the Fayette Family YMCA's largest program is an outdoor, summer day camp. A lodge provides meeting space for local nonprofits, and a play park was built in the 1990s.

Opened in 2007, the Summit Family YMCA is a full-service, family YMCA with wellness and aquatic programs, youth sports, youth and teen development programs, and more. The facility includes a gymnasium, an aquatic center, a wellness center, and a tennis center.

The Fayette YMCA will continue to provide an outdoor day camp experience for area children who need constructive summer activities. Holiday camps for upcoming school breaks are offered as well.

A charitable organization, the YMCA is an association of people who come together with the vision of building strong kids, strong families, and strong communities. The YMCA is open to people of all abilities, ages, beliefs, cultures, faiths, and incomes. Financial assistance is available based on need.
