Main Street Newnan honored volunteers and named new officers at its first meeting of 2012.
The business organization held its annual banquet Jan. 24 at the Newnan-Coweta History Center/Depot on East Broad Street. More than 115 Main St. Newnan members, corporate sponsors, staff and elected officials celebrated the accomplishments of 2011 and heard about several exciting initiatives planned for 2012.
Main Street Newnan awarded the William Sexton Volunteer of the Year Award to Sam Edwards, a member of Main Street Newnan and the City of Newnan Downtown Development Authority. A retired bank executive, Edwards remarked that during his time volunteering with the Main Street office he realized how different the environment between working at a bank and a public organization is. "Not better or worse, just different," he said jokingly.
As is customary at the annual banquet, which also serves as the organization's January board meeting, Main Street Newnan members elected new officers for 2012.
2011 President Betty Boylston of Smart Solutions presided over the nomination and election of the following officers: President Bob Reid of P.S.S. Signs, Vice President Tim Higgins of Higgins & Smith CPA, and Secretary Phyllis Graham of Let Them Eat Toffee.
