Coweta In Focus

It Takes A Team

by Greg Wright, President, Coweta County Development Authority

(Editor’s note: Coweta in Focus features views of several Newnan and Coweta community leaders.)

A delivery driver stopped by the office recently and asked what was going on in one of our industrial parks. He had driven by and had seen a large group of people standing beside a site. The answer was very simple… we had a prospect in town, and Team Coweta was out in force.

Economic development is a team effort. No one person or organization can make things happen because it takes many different pieces coming together to be successful.

The first step in some projects is a Request for Information (RFI), which we receive from companies or consultants to help gather information they need to evaluate various locations. Over the years, we have a completed hundreds of these documents; however, no two are ever alike. Therefore, we have built relationships in the community that we can call upon — often at a moment’s notice — to provide accurate information to help with our response.

For site visits by companies, these partners are invaluable. On the day the driver saw us, we had a company in town looking at a site. For this particular visit, company officials wanted to see the site and wanted to meet with our utility partners to explain their project and to make sure that their water, sewer, electricity and gas needs could all be met at the Coweta location.

Several weeks later, the company came back and wanted to discuss labor and education. So, we pulled together a group to discuss those topics.

It is all part of the process.

As we near the end of the year, now is a great time to thank the people and organizations in our community who have helped us during 2013. We could not do it without you. We thank you, and our community thanks you.
